New Year Book Tag

January is well underway, so it almost feels as if the appropriate time to muse about what we expect from the new year has already passed. However, when I saw the New Year Book Tag on Lauren and the Books YouTube channel, I couldn’t help but wanting to answer the questions myself. Do you remember when I hardly ever did tags? Those days seem to be progressively coming to an end.

  1. How many books are you planning on reading in 2022?

As I mentioned in the post about my bookish resolutions for 2022, I’m planning to read 35 books, a number higher than in 2021, but in line with previous years.

  1. Name 5 books you didn’t get to in 2021 that you would like to read in 2022.

I didn’t read as many books as I was hoping to in 2021. Some of those that I hadn’t the time to read but that I definitely want to pick up this year are: The Glass Hotel by Emily St. John Mandel, The Animals at Lockwood Manor by Jane Healey, O Círculo Virtuoso by Maria Isabel Barreno, Ship of Destiny by Robin Hobb, and The Bass Rock by Evie Wyld.

  1. What genre do you want to read more of in 2022?

I want to read more plays. Do they count as a genre? They are a literary form that I hardly ever read.

  1. Name 3 non-book related goals for 2022.

Before having watched Lauren’s video, I had already been inspired by her for one of my non-bookish goals for this year. As she did last year, I want to watch 100 new-to-me films in 2022. In the latest years, I have watched far more TV series than films, and the ones that I watched were either old favourites or relatively recent releases, which haven’t been many. I want to change that this year, although I have only watched one film so far.

While I was at university, I learnt German for a year. I’m planning to pick it up again, since I’ve forgotten almost everything. By the end of the year, I’m hoping to have at least achieved A2 level. My plan is to follow the DW course, while also taking a look at my old German notebook, downloading a language app, and watching some YouTube channels about language learning.

Finally, I also don’t want to accumulate unnecessary stuff. No, I haven’t been watching Marie Kondo! For a couple of years now, when it comes to clothes, I have only been buying new items when I need to replace others or when I fall head over heels in love with something. This year, I also want to do that in other areas. And when I say “areas” I mostly mean stationery. Plus, I don’t want to keep things I don’t need or use. I have too many DVDs and CDs, for example, I don’t watch or listen to anymore that need to find a new home, probably my local library.

  1. What’s a book you have had forever that you still need to read?

I’ve only been buying books as I read them, so the unread books I have on my shelves are all relatively recent purchases. There are many books that have been on my wish list for a very long time, though. The Cement Garden by Ian McEwan is one of them.

  1. One word you are hoping 2022 will be.

Fruitful!

I’m not tagging anyone, but feel free to answer as many questions as you like in the comments. If you decide to do this tag, let me know!

I’m trying to focus on my backlist this year. There are too many books I’ve been “hoping to get to” for some time now and I want to make them a priority. Good luck with your goals!
